Your next role

You will work alongside senior lighting designers and multidisciplinary project teams, collaborating with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients to help develop thoughtful, technically sound, and visually compelling lighting solutions.

Your key duties

To give you an idea of how this role would look and feel, here are some of the things you could expect to do:

  • Develop lighting and daylighting design concepts and carry them through to construction documentation
  • Produce the design package: concept design documents, design narratives, lighting criteria matrices, Revit drawings, details, and luminaire specifications

  • Develop lighting strategies and master-planning for public realm, city-scale, and architectural projects
  • Produce visualizations and 3D lighting models that communicate design intent
  • Research, evaluate and specify luminaires, including manufacturer coordination, samples, and mockups
  • Coordinate lighting with architecture, landscape, electrical and controls inside BIM-based workflows, and contribute to client and design team meetings
  • Visit sites during construction: installation review, aiming and focus, controls programming support, and construction administration
  • Develop your technical range through structured mentoring and Buro Happold's global lighting network
Your skills and experience
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Lighting Design, Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Design, Engineering, or a related field
  • 1+ years of professional experience in architectural lighting or daylighting design
  • Working knowledge of lighting design principles, daylighting, luminaires, controls, codes, and specifications
  • Ability to develop and present design ideas through sketches, diagrams, drawings, and renderings
  • Proficiency in Revit for lighting documentation
  • Proficiency in AGi32 for photometric calculation and analysis; experience with Dialux or Relux also considered; Iray or LightStanza a plus
  • Proficiency in Photoshop; experience with 3ds Max preferred; familiarity with Rhino, Enscape, or Lumion a plus
  • Comfortable working independently and inside a multidisciplinary team
  • Candidates are encouraged to apply even if they don't meet all requirements
What we offer
  • Salary range of $86,800 - $97,000. This will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience
  • Generous benefits package
  • Annual discretionary bonus
  • Generous PTO (4 weeks) in addition to paid holidays
  • 401k with company match
  • Hybrid working & summer hours
  • Reimbursement for certain professional licenses and associated renewals and exam fees
  • Connection to a global network of experts on the forefront of industry initiatives
  • Access to wide-ranging learning and development opportunities
  • Be a part of supporting our diverse company culture through open engagement with our Young Employees Forum, Diversity and Inclusion Forum, Buro Happold Women's Network, and/or our Black at Buro Happold Employee Resource Groups
